Microsoft Celebrates 20 years on the Web!

Microsoft-Old-Website2014 marks the 20th anniversary for our partners at Rimrock Corporation being a Certified Microsoft Partner!

This year Microsoft is also celebrating an anniversary. Two decades on the World Wide Web! In celebration, Microsoft has recreated its original website that launched back in 1994. As you can see from the image shown, dated is probably the nicest thing anyone can say about it. Microsoft’s website went up only five years after the Web itself was created, and a year before it released its own Web browser, Internet Explorer.

It only managed to beat the White House, not then thought of as a technological pioneer, by a few months. Today Microsoft is one of the top 10 most visited sites in the world. Still, it’s worth taking a look at the old site, created in large part as a place to put support information for its computers and other products.

An Accurate & Hilarious take on Conference Calls

Modern technology has opened up new marketplaces that allow us to promote our businesses to new geographic locations. And given that it can now be as easy to work with people remotely as it is to work face-to-face, telecommunication is increasingly the new norm. At CORE Real Estate Software, our customer base extends throughout Canada, the US and other parts of the world so we participate in daily conference calls (and other online communication tools) with clients and partners.

Anybody who’s ever been on a conference call knows that a few things are always to be expected:

  1. There is almost always an awkward conversation between the first two participants until others join.
  2. When the meeting is underway, two people begin to speak at once, both insisting the other continue.
  3. One person gets disconnected, and has to log back in – *beep* “It’s me again, sorry about that.”

Well, YouTube geniuses Tripp and Tyler have turned all of the awkward interactions on a conference call into a reality that’s so very accurate and hilarious, it makes me want to call a meeting with our team just to see who I would “be” in this scenario.

Holding On for Next Generation Hardware

Intels-4th-generation-Haswell-processor-to-make-formal-debut-at-Computex-June-3rd“In approximately 3,337,200,000,000,000 nanoseconds, Intel will reveal all there is to know about the 4th generation Intel Core processor family,” Intel announced on April 26. That got our attention because our staff are delaying the acquisition of tablets, ultra books and laptops for devices that will use the “Haswell” chip as it is known. These devices will offer dramatically better battery life, displays that are greatly superior to what is currently available, faster wake from sleep times and vital connected standby features.

The wait is a challenge for some staff, but given how deeply the new device chipsets are integrated with Windows 8, it is clear that this is one of those things in life worth waiting for. CORE plans to be able to place orders for our employees in July or August.
